Pastor Hilla Lahtinen
Hilla Lahtinen (HBMus, MDiv) is a pastor and a mother to two very busy girls, Lumi and Vilja. Hilla grew up in Finland, but has been calling Canada home for almost 20 years. After working in music as a choral conductor, music director, and teacher for a decade, Hilla felt called to study theology and train for congregational ministry. She loves to build community, explore questions of faith and doubt with others, study scriptures, and find ways to make the church a welcoming place for all. She also loves camping, hiking, reading, and baking with her kids. Hilla is married to Ronnie Smith and they serve the congregation of Peace as a ministry team.
Pastor Ronnie Smith
Pastor Ronnie holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science & History (Lakehead), a Master’s degree in History (Lakehead), as well as a Master of Divinity degree (Wilfrid Laurier). In June 2017 Ronnie was ordained for ministry by the Evangelical Lutheran Church In Canada (ELCIC). Ronnie is married to Hilla Lahtinen and is the proud father of two daughters Lumi and Vilja.
Kirsten Boucher, Organist
BM 1988, BEd 1989
Kirsten’s organ career started in 1980, when at the age of 16 she was asked to step into the position of organist and choir director at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Richmond Hill, Ontario. In 1994, she moved to Pickering and has been playing organ and piano at Peace Lutheran Church ever since. Kirsten, a retired high school mathematics teacher, also enjoys travelling by bicycle, working with The Olive Branch for Children, upcycling and spending time with her family. Kirsten is a firm believer that music “Heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul”.
Heddi Gregor, Parish Nurse
The Parish Nurse, Heddi Gregor, is concerned about the spiritual as well as the physical state of the congregation and community members she meets. She is in ongoing communication with the pastors and supports their ministry through devotional home visits (with communion if requested). The Parish nurse also represents Peace Lutheran Church through outreach: devotions and services in community, seniors’ residences, and hospitals; additionally, she brings the community into the church through partnership with “The Youth Centre” by hosting cooking programs with young mums in the church kitchen.
